Three lines from my diary

As I sat on the verandah, hoping that the cold air in my face and a cup of coffee would wake me:

"It takes so much for my head to unfreeze on mornings like this.
The chirping of birds helps;
the rumble of traffic doesn't."

Perhaps I'll having to start drinking Red Bull!

Swindled?

At 8.30 pm tonight on ABC is an important documentary: The Great Global Warming Swindle. This aired a couple of months ago on channel 4 in the UK.

After the docco, Lateline host Tony Jones will interview Martin Durkin, the show's writer and director. Should be interesting.

This is essential viewing for anyone who wants to hear a voice other than that of the noisy rabble singing its predictable tune.

I have, err, a slight problem: we don't own a TV. Anyone got a screen we can camp in front of from around 8 pm?

Traffic Hazards

This is from my local paper (Guardian Express July 3 - 9):

"The other strange phenomenon I've observed is what I call The Bubble of Invincibility. This bubble can be observed any time of day on Bay View Terrace, Rokeby Road or Oxford Street. It appears to be a fashion accessory for blonde-haired women alighting from 4WD vehicles, but other pedestrians also possess it.

The Bubble of Invincibility allows you to walk on to the road without looking for oncoming traffic. With the bubble you never, ever check whether a car is about to run you over. Your wealth and perceived status have immunised you to the possibility of accident or fatal death through colliding with a motor vehicle. Caught up in shopping reveries, you are totally oblivious to your surroundings. While of great benefit to the conceited pedestrian, the bubble can cause untold stress to the poor driver who chooses to navigate down these boulevards of affluence."

Often, my wife and I wryly joke about taking out Invincibles at the knees.

Munificence

Usually I don't use words like this - especially not in conversation - as people might think I am a prat or a nerd.

But tonight, after reading the book of Micah, I was reminded that munificent is one of the most apt descriptions of God (see, especially, ch. 7 verses 18 to 20).

Of course, it means ...

No; you look it up!

PS Our visitor, Mr H (see previous post), has left his calling card on the toilet floor - delightful!
